Lesson 2: The Examined Life

Lesson 2: The Examined Life

In Lesson 2 of an 8 part series, we discuss the The Examined Life. The book of 1 John is full of exams. These exams count for much more than a diploma though. These exams determine our eternal destiny. How do you know you are in community (fellowship) with God? Is it a feeling? Is it something you do? Is it because you come to church on Sunday? The Apostle John asked and answered that question in 1 John 1:5-2:2. If you look at the scriptures, John was stating that you cannot live a double sided life. You’re either of God, or you’re of the world. Fortunately, John gave us the solution to finding out whether we are of God or of the world by forcing us to examine our own obedience to God. God is light; he is perfect and has no darkness. That being said, if we are with God; we aren’t in darkness. In other words, God reveals all of who we are and there is no way we can hide anything from God! He is the only one who knows who we are when no one is looking. While living The Examined Life, does Jesus have access to every part of your life? Are there some things completely off limits to His light? Have you confessed your sins today, so you can receive forgiveness and cleansing?  I think it would be right, if we simply take some time to find a place to pray and confess our sins to Jesus and begin walking in the light of His love.
