Lesson 5: The Overcoming Life
Lesson 5 of an 8 part series discusses living The Overcoming Life. Have you ever forgotten something? Something really important like a wedding anniversary or a birthday? It seems that the older we get, the more forgetful we become. Reading 1 John 2:12-17 is kind of like hearing John tell the church to get out their diaries and pencils because there are some very important things they need to be reminded of. In these verses, he talks specifically to the “fathers” and “young men” to remind them of some very important things. Things that will empower them to overcome the devil and the world. Why did John choose to write to the old and young men? I believe he chose to write to the men because it is vitally important, we be the leaders of the family, the home, the church and of worship. If we, as fathers, will not forget what God has done, then we can remind our children and from that our children will come to know God. If we fail to set the example of godliness and holiness; the whole church will fail. We need men of integrity and men who are not ashamed of the gospel. Are you living and acting in a way that would bring glory to God? Does how you live match the way you talk? All of these things are important if we are to overcome the devil. What areas are you struggling with? We all struggle and that is why we need each other. Let God remind us of some things so our families and our church will prosper and live “The Overcoming Life.”
